THE CHURCH OF SAN VITTORIO<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]The parish church of San Vittorio Martirewas built from 1835 to 1838 thanks to donations from Annamaria of Savoy and her mother. It is located only a stone\u2019s throw from the old town centre and features a plain facade with a square bell tower. It has a single nave, reached via the main entrance steps or along a ramp on the right.<\/p>\n

Inside the church, visitors can admire the wooden panels carved by the Sardinian artist Liliana Canu, as well as precious artefacts such as the silverware donated byMaria Theresa of Austria in 1811, the wooden statue of the Assumption, the Living Crucified Christ and an icon of St. Matthew from Russia, attributed to the Stroganov school.<\/p>\n

THE CHURCH OF SANTA LUCIA<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1589648135407{padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”]The Church of Santa Lucia is located in one of the prettiest parts of Santa Teresa Gallura\u2019s old town, settled by a large community from the island of Ponza. The church is surrounded by colourful houses and overlooks the port. Entirely painted white, the church features a rectangular layout with side buttresses and a bell-gable. Inside, it consists of a single nave with two round arches and a niche at the far end that houses the statue of St. Lucy. The Crucifixion statue carved in wild olive and juniper wood by Giovanni Pedditzi is particularly interesting, as are the 14 Stations of the Cross painted by Cosimo Musio that decorate the side walls. THE CHURCH OF SANTA REPARATA<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1589648162376{padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”]Approximately four km from town, the Church of Santa Reparata was built in c.1851 in the bay of that name. The church is a simple white building surrounded by granite and seaside colours. Its name could originate from an older church that once stood on the Capo Testa promontory and is mentioned in a poem written in 1114.<\/p>\n

The building, which overlooks the sea, consists of three bays, a wooden roof and a bell-gable.
\nIn early September, religious ceremonies take place that include a procession towards the area of Buoncammino, where a very popular food festival takes place, featuring traditional dishes.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1580121440574{background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”]

THE CHURCH OF NOSTRA SIGNORA DEL BUONCAMMINO<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1589648187267{padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”]Located in the middle of the area named after it (three km from town), the church of Nostra Signora del Buoncammino was probably erected on the site of a Roman temple. It is believed that the ancient temple was dedicated to a divinity that protected wayfarers, given that it occupied a strategic position when travelling towards other places. The church that stands here today was rebuilt in the early 1900s with a Latin cross layout, a portico outside and a bell-gable. It was renovated in the 1950s when a copper-clad dome was added over the chancel.

THE CHURCH OF SAN TOMMASO IN PORTO POZZO<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1589648229665{padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”]The hamlet of Porto Pozzo is around 10 km from Santa Teresa Gallura. Here, the parish church of San Tommaso was built in approximately 1930, commissioned by Pope Pius IX. The church has a vestry and a church hall, and is the site of a patron saint\u2019s festival on the first weekend of July, which involves vespers, the blessing of the flag and tastings of traditional specialities.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1580121465823{background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”]

THE CHURCH OF SAN PASQUALE BAYLON<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1589648253896{padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”]The hamlet of San Pasquale, where you\u2019ll find the Church of San Pasquale Baylon, is approximately 15 km from Santa Teresa Gallura, on the road to Palau. Dating from the early 1900s, it was entirely rebuilt in the 1960s with granite cladding over a Romanesque-style basilica floor plan, with a large two-storey portico. The magnificent view from the side bell tower is worth mentioning. THE LITTLE CHURCH OF SAN DIEGO<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1589648301238{padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”]Located on a small hill overlooking the port of Longonsardo to the east, this monument was commissioned by private individuals to commemorate their son Diego, tragically killed during an underwater fishing expedition. The architectural style, featuring bare stone, was chosen to resemble a Sardinian nuraghe, whilst featuring sacred elements. The churchyard has a bronze statue of the Fisherman\u2019s Piet\u00e0, by the Veneto-based sculptor Sergio Rodella, and a large wooden cross that points towards a beautiful view.
